Protecting oils, colours & flavours from oxidation
Oxidation can cause rancidity, colour fading, nutrient loss and off-flavours in fat- and oil-containing foods, beverages and snacks. Antioxidants and antioxidant preservatives help slow these reactions, maintaining sensory quality and extending shelf life. The right system depends on matrix, processing, packaging and regulatory limits.
How food antioxidants work
Antioxidant systems typically work by interrupting free-radical chain reactions, chelating pro-oxidant metals, acting as oxygen scavengers, or stabilising colour and flavour compounds. In practice, formulators often combine:
- Primary antioxidants (for example, ascorbic acid, erythorbic acid) that donate electrons to free radicals.
- Antioxidant salts (sodium erythorbate, sodium ascorbate) for improved solubility and functionality in aqueous systems.
- Interface and surface modifiers (silicon dioxide, titanium dioxide) that stabilise powders, colours and sensitive ingredients.
- Antioxidant preservatives (parabens) that inhibit oxidative and microbial degradation in specific applications.
Atlas Global Trading Co. provides both antioxidant actives and supporting ingredients, enabling you to design complete systems tailored to your product and process.
Why source antioxidants from Atlas?
We cooperate with audited manufacturers in China and support customers with:
- Consistent specifications, batch traceability and food-grade documentation.
- Options for different physical forms (powders, granules) optimised for blending and dissolution.
- Regulatory support (for example, usage limits, additive categories, E-numbers) in your export markets.
- Flexible packaging and logistics via Türkiye to Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia.
Our portfolio can be integrated with your existing preservative and packaging strategy, such as MAP (modified atmosphere packaging), cold chain or retort processing.

Parabens & paraben salts
Methyl Paraben
Widely used antioxidant preservative effective against a range of microorganisms in foods and personal care products. Supplied as a white crystalline powder with defined assay, purity and melting point specifications. Suitable for sauces, bakery fillings, beverages and certain nutraceutical formulations where parabens are permitted.
Sodium Methyl Paraben
Sodium salt of methyl paraben offering improved solubility in aqueous systems. Used where easy dispersion and rapid dissolution are required, for example syrups, beverages and liquid preparations. Supplied as a white, hygroscopic crystalline powder.
Propyl Paraben
Antioxidant preservative with strong efficacy at low dosage, supplied as white crystals with good stability. Used in selected food and personal care applications to help control oxidative changes and microbial spoilage, subject to local regulatory limits.
Sodium Propyl Paraben
Sodium salt of propyl paraben in hygroscopic crystalline form for applications where water solubility and uniform distribution are important. Suitable for certain beverages, syrups and semi-liquid foods where permitted by applicable legislation.
Silicon dioxide & titanium dioxide
Silicon Dioxide (Food Grade)
Amorphous silica used as an anti-caking agent, flow aid and stabiliser in powders, beverage mixes, seasoning blends and vitamin premixes. Helps maintain free-flowing properties, protects sensitive components and supports consistent dosing and packaging performance.
Titanium Dioxide (Rutile Grade)
Rutile-grade titanium dioxide pigment used as a whitening and opacifying agent in selected food, confectionery and pharmaceutical applications where regulations allow. Provides strong opacity, brightness and UV stability in coatings, tablets and sugar-coated products.
Titanium Dioxide (Anatase Grade)
Anatase-grade titanium dioxide with softer optical properties, used for specific applications requiring high whiteness and controlled opacity. Recommended uses depend on local regulations governing titanium dioxide in foods and related products.
Erythorbic & ascorbic antioxidant systems
Erythorbic Acid
Stereoisomer of ascorbic acid used as an antioxidant to protect colour and flavour in processed meats, beverages and canned products. Effective in reducing oxidative changes and often used together with nitrites and other preservatives in meat systems.
Sodium Erythorbate
Water-soluble antioxidant commonly used in cured meats, poultry and fish to maintain colour and inhibit oxidation. Offers fast reductive action and is preferred in many brines and curing systems for its solubility and strong antioxidant effect.
Ascorbic Acid (Vitamin C)
Water-soluble vitamin used both as a nutrient and as an antioxidant to prevent oxidation in beverages, fruit products, bakery and meat. Supports colour stability and helps protect flavours, especially in oxygen-sensitive formulations.
Sodium Ascorbate
Sodium salt of ascorbic acid with improved solubility and milder acidity. Used where vitamin C fortification and antioxidant performance are required without excessive sourness, for example in meat brines, beverages and fortified foods.
Ascorbyl Palmitate
Fat-soluble ester of ascorbic acid used to protect oils, fats, vitamin formulations and fat-rich foods from oxidation. Often combined with tocopherols and other antioxidants in oil systems, infant nutrition, margarines, spreads and fat-based fillings.
Designing antioxidant systems for your product & process
Antioxidant performance depends on many factors – fat type, water activity, pH, packaging, oxygen availability, light exposure and process conditions. Atlas Food Additives helps you translate these variables into robust antioxidant strategies that work from pilot to full-scale production.
Matching antioxidants to product matrices
Oil-rich snacks, meat products, beverages and powders each require different antioxidant approaches. For example:
- Meat and poultry products often rely on erythorbic acid, sodium erythorbate and ascorbates in combination with nitrites, salt and packaging.
- Fruit beverages and juices benefit from ascorbic acid or sodium ascorbate paired with appropriate packaging and dissolved oxygen control.
- Powdered premixes and seasonings use silicon dioxide and other flow aids to stabilise sensitive nutrients and maintain free-flowing properties.
We help you define antioxidant systems that fit your sensory targets, shelf-life expectations and cost-in-use constraints.
Integrating antioxidants with preservatives
Antioxidants are typically combined with preservatives, low water activity, heat treatment and packaging to create an overall shelf-life strategy. Our broader portfolio of Preservatives enables harmonised sourcing and technical support for both oxidative and microbiological stability.
Regulatory & labelling considerations
Each antioxidant has its own permitted uses, maximum levels and labelling rules in different regions. Some applications require E-number declarations, while others may prefer “vitamin C” or similar terminology where authorised. Titanium dioxide, in particular, is subject to evolving regulatory positions in various markets.
Atlas Global Trading Co. provides specifications and documentation to support your own regulatory assessments, so your labels and product dossiers reflect current requirements in your key export destinations.
From sampling to long-term supply
We support concept development, plant trials and long-term supply agreements. Samples can be provided quickly for lab work, followed by bulk shipments and contract arrangements from our partner manufacturers in China through Atlas Global Trading Co. in Türkiye.
